Slow computers are the bane of our lives, they consume our time through us simply waiting for a website to load or for Microsoft Word to open.

There are a number of ways you can speed up your computer and I'll outline them below.

1) Chrome: Chrome is notoriously CPU-intensive, this means it uses most of the resources available to the PC without allowing other apps to use it. Chrome builds up a copy of websites you visit commonly so that, when you next open the page, it opens faster. The downside of this is that it uses lots of storage.

Go to the menu button in the far-right corner and click on settings when it appears. Scroll down to the bottom and click on 'Advanced'. Click on 'Clear Browsing Data'. When choosing what to delete, it is vitally important that you, at the very minimum, click on Clear Cached Images and Files from all time. This should speed up Chrome on your PC

2) Windows: Windows, prudently, keeps the update files and various other files when you update your PC. This is all good and well however, they take up a huge amount of space and slow your PC down a huge amount. In order to speed up your PC, follow these steps:

  • Open File Explorer
  • Click on Local Disk (commonly denoted as C: drive)
  • At the top of you toolbar, you should see a new tab appear called ‘Drive Tools’.
  • Click on that and then click on Clean-up.

There you can delete all the unwanted files clogging up your PC and have a healthier and faster PC for the future!

3) Restart your device: We know that restarting your device is inconvenient but sometimes it really is the best thing to do to speed up your device.
